A&S Racing Cars

Pro Formula Mazda

BACKGROUND: Debuting in 2003 the new Pro Formula Mazda car replaced one of the most popular cars in history, what is now called the Standard Formula Mazda.  The new car brought the professional Star Mazda Championship Series to the forefront of open-wheel technology, but at a fraction of the cost of other modern open-wheel cars.  Every car on the grid is identical making this a 'spec' series, meaning the other teams can't build a better car than you, so you're not beaten by a better car, you're beaten by a better driver or team.

PERFORMANCE: The cars are capable of accelerating from 0 - 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, with a top speed in excess of 165 MPH and a lateral acceleration of 2.0g.  Braking capabilities are 60 - 0 MPH in 100 feet.

CHASSIS: Carbon fiber composite driver's tub built to FIA standards with a front track of 61.5", rear track of 58.5", a wheelbase of 100.5" and a 19 U.S. gallon fuel cell.

WINGS: The car is equipped with front and rear adjustable wings.

ENGINE: Mazda Renesis rotary engine with encrypted ECU including rev limiter, pit speed limiter, traction control, and fuel trim.

BRAKES: Cockpit adjustable bias, 4-pot alloy calipers, vented, floating steel discs.

SUSPENSION: Pushrod, inboard with two-way adjustable shock absorbers, adjustable rear sway bar, cockpit adjustable front sway bar.  The front suspension is tethered to the car so in the case of an impact on the front corners the suspension cannot fly off and injure the driver, rescue workers, or spectators.

TIRES: Goodyear Eagle Bias-ply tires, 9X13" in front, 11X13" in rear.

WEIGHT: 1,090 pounds without driver.

VanDiemen FF2000 Zetec
